Curious Colors

A difficult section for explanatory. You hopefully have the patience to read it carefully. If you think the colors of a photo look strange on the screen, the monitor is misaligned in 99.99% of all cases. Cheap flat screens show less shades in the Green area than the standard sRGB prescribes. The main problem, however, is that virtually every monitor is completely misaligned. This is because the colors, brightness and contrast of the screen is set so that the desktop looks nice, or for pleasant work with the word processing.

For accurate color rendering always input and output device have to be calibrated. The monitor has a special importance because it also can be an input device! This is fact when colors, brightness or contrast of a photo are set in the image processing.

Precondition for accurate color rendering is a correspondingly high-quality, appropriate for image processing monitor, that displays the color space sRGB at least. The environment has to be illuminated anti-glare with a 6500K light. The screen must get calibrated at regular intervals using a special device.

If it is important to you, to assess the colors of a certain photo, just demand a print. Consider the photo in the daylight.
